The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the nine departments of the Technological Education Institute of Piraeus, TEIP (Year of establishment 1983-L.1404/83) and belongs to the School of Technological Applications of the Institute. Its mission is to promote the education and applied research, development and dissemination of knowledge in the technological field of Engineering. To acquire the knowledge, the Department develops suitable theoretical background studies with high-level laboratory and practical training (internship), and organization infrastructure for applied technology research.
By obtaining theoretical and applied scientific training, our graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the particularly demanding labor market in the best possible way.
The number of undergraduate students currently attending the Department of Mechanical Engineering is approximately 1800 students, while the academic staff of the Department consists of 17 permanent members along with 40 adjunct tutors.
The graduates of the Department are professionally active as Mechanical Engineers of Higher Technological Education in a wide range of professional fields, such as:
- Construction of public and private projects
- Design of mechanical engineering, energy and environmental systems
- Design, installation, operation and maintenance of production systems
- Organization and management of industrial enterprises and projects
- Safety of workers and facilities
- Testing and quality assurance of products and services
With the full implementation of the new undergraduate curriculum, the ongoing efforts to upgrade education and development and research activities as well as the necessary support from the State, the Department of Engineering seeks to meet the needs of modern Greek society and demands the position of worth in Greek higher education.
Concluding, the Department of Mechanical Engineering focuses on both traditional and modern fields of engineering with a continuous presence in research and scientific activities and collaborations with Greek and European educational and research institutions. It aims to give graduates the necessary skills but also to shape the thinking and team-working spirit to ensure the best prospects for successful careers and / or further study within the heavy demands of modern times. For this purpose, emphasis is given on the preparation of graduate students for a European professional career, by means of exchange and mobility programs and co-operations, under the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
